At the stroke of midnight on December 31st, the skies of England’s capital burst to life in a spectacular array of colour and sound as the world famous London New Year’s Eve fireworks welcome us to the start of 2018.
Broadcast live on the BBC, the annual, end-of-year extravaganza regularly attracts record crowds, and this year is set to be no different.
So, if you’re planning to experience this awe-inspiring New Year’s show for yourself, the team here at the Amsterdam Hotel in Earls Court recommend planning your New Year’s break in London sooner, rather than later.
After all, we wouldn’t want you to miss out on one of the world’s most recognisable New Year’s celebrations.
Here then, is your guide to seeing the fireworks up close and personal when you stay at our London hotel this December.
The UK’s Biggest Street Party
From early evening on December 31st, the streets of London will be taken over by what is essentially one big street party, with revellers from all four corners of the globe descending on the capital to take part in this internationally famous celebration.
The heart of the action takes place in the areas around Westminster, which is a mere 15 minutes away from our hotel in Earls Court.
There, jaw-dropping views of Big Ben and the London skyline provide the perfect backdrop to the fireworks themselves whilst a live DJ plays a host of party favourites to keep you dancing the night away.
At the stroke of midnight, the bells of Big Ben ring out and London’s sky comes alive with a fireworks display the likes of which you’ve never seen before.
For those of you wondering, no, we haven’t got it wrong. Big Ben was silenced earlier this year to undergo renovation work, but we’re told it will still ring in the new year as it always does.
How to Get The Best View of the London New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Given the enormous popularity of the event, the only way to get a front-row seat to the New Year’s Eve Fireworks is with a ticket. These cost £10 and are available only via SeeTickets.
Tickets won’t be available on the night and must be booked in advance.
At time of writing, only the blue and white zones were sold out, with tickets for several other prime viewing areas still available.
Once you have your ticket (ours came in the post well before December 31st last year, and we’re expecting the same this year, too), arrive early to beat the biggest of the crowds and ensure a great view when London’s night sky comes to life at midnight.
What Else is Happening in the Capital?
