The district of Earls Court in West London is home to two of the largest exhibition centres in the city, Olympia and Earls Court. This means that the area is one which is regularly explored by large numbers of tourists and other visitors, bringing a whole host of trade to the area. Opposite the Exhibition Centre is Earls Court tube station (which serves the District and Circle Lines) together with an iconic blue phone box, which you might recognise as Dr Who’s time travelling spaceship from the TV series Dr Who. This is a great place to have your photo taken when visiting!
Another major landmark is the Empress State Building, which is found in Lillie road, a short walk from the Exhibition Centre. A triangular shaped office building formerly owned by the Ministry of Defence and now being occupied by the Metropolitan Police, it is an unusual looking building that attracts many visitors and is worth a look at while you are here.
Although Earls Court is famed for its well-known collection of restaurants, bars and cafes – it is the smaller family owned places that you should explore, to be found off the main roads and on the smaller back roads. Here you will find a wide range of cuisine on offer, from all around the world. Earls Court village is also home to the British Filipino community with a range of shops and restaurants to choose from. There is no shortage of choice when it comes to eating out in Earls Court, you won’t be disappointed.
If you are looking to walk a little further afield then why not visit Hyde Park or Kensington gardens, both of which are the perfect place to spend some time and relax in beautiful scenery. Or if you are looking for an educational day out, London’s museum district is also within walking distance and here you can visit the Science and Natural History museums (which are amongst the best museums n the world) as well as many others.
